How To Get The Look: Black French Nails
For this nail design you’ll need: a cuticle oil (coconut oil will do), clear base coat, black nail polish, top coat and one thin brush.
Step 1: Prepare your nails by pushing back the cuticles with an orange stick and applying cuticle oil to hydrate them. The moisturized cuticles will be easier to push back and shape up later!
Step 2: Apply a clear base coat for your nails to protect them from the black color and prevent staining. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step!
Step 3: Apply two coats of black nail polish (or as many coats as it
Black French Nails:
As you know, I love black nails and I love the french manicure. So, here is a great way to combine them!
Nail Polish Remover
Cotton Balls or Pads
Base Coat (optional)
Pink Nail Polish (you can also use white or ivory)
Black Nail Polish
Top Coat (optional)
First, remove any old polish that is on your nails with nail polish remover and a cotton ball/pad. The easiest way to do this is to put some nail polish remover on a cotton ball or pad, gently press it over your nail for a few seconds and then wipe away. Repeat until all the old polish is gone. Now wash your hands to remove any residue from the nail polish remover.
Next, apply base coat if you are using one. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step. If you are not using base coat, skip this step. Make sure that once your base coat is applied it is COMPLETELY dry before moving on to the next step. Apply as many coats of base coat as needed; usually 1-2 coats will do the trick unless you have very weak nails. Base coat helps keep nails healthy
Put a fresh spin on the old French manicure by going for black tips. To help you get the look, we asked nail stylist Tracylee Percival for her step-by-step guide to applying the Black French manicure.
1. Apply two coats of your base color. Make sure that it’s completely dry before moving onto the next step.
2. Using a fine brush, paint a line of white polish across the tip of your nail. Try to keep it as close to the edge as you can and don’t worry if it’s not perfect!
3. Once that has dried, use a black polish to line up with and cover half of the white strip at the tip of your nails. This step is optional, but I think it really adds something special to this look!
4. Finish off with a quick dry topcoat – and you’re done!
I know, I know, we are all supposed to be rocking Pantone’s color of the year (Marsala) for our nails right now. But I just can’t do it. As much as I love wine and look great in reds and browns, the thought of having a wine colored nail makes me feel like I’m going to a Halloween party as the Monopoly Man. So instead, I’m sticking with my favorite color—black—to create an update on the classic French manicure.
To get this look you will need:
• Black polish
• Glitter polish (I used Essie’s No Place Like Chrome)
• A nail striping brush
Step 1: Apply your base coat and then two coats of black polish.
Step 2: After your polish is dry, use a nail striping brush and your glitter polish to paint a diagonal line from the corner of your nail toward the center. Make sure you leave enough room between each line so that they don’t touch. The idea here is to create a barcode effect on each nail.
Step 3: Once each nail is complete, apply a topcoat and you’re done!
If you have a classic manicure, French nails are one of the best options for you. The white tips and the red base colors look very good together and will always be in fashion. To make your manicure even more attractive, use black nail polish on the tips instead of white. It looks just so cool! The black color makes your nails look elegant and stylish at the same time.
You can use any color combination you want as long as it goes well with the black nail polish on the tips. For example, use white or nude nail polish, red nail polish or even sliver glitter nail polish.
For a more feminine look, you can create a French manicure with pink nail polish on the tips. This is one of my favorite combinations when I want to create something elegant and feminine but still want to add a touch of mystery to my nails.
You can also try to create different shapes with your nails, like oval shaped nails or square shaped ones (or even almond shaped). It all depends on what you like and what suits your style better.
If you’re looking for an easy way to get a beautiful manicure, then this is definitely it!
1. Apply a base coat to all nails, and let dry for 2-3 minutes.
2. Next, apply two thin coats of the black polish to all nails, and let dry for 5-10 minutes.
3. With the white polish apply a thin line across the tip of all nails. To do so, begin at the middle of each nail and gently glide the brush towards each side. Be sure to keep your strokes as straight as possible and use very little pressure on the brush to avoid any bloops or smudges.
4. Finish off with a fast drying top coat!
