A blog about maintaining acrylic nails and tips.

Ever wondered how to make your nails last longer? I get asked this all the time by my clients. So here are my top tips on how to maintain your nails.

1. Wash dishes with gloves – detergent is a big no no for nails, so avoiding it as much as possible will help keep them healthy.

2. Apply cuticle oil daily – If you have enhancements keeping your natural nail bed hydrated is essential and a must to prevent chipping.

3. Avoid washing hands in water – The more you wash your hands in water the more brittle your nails can become, try and avoid getting them wet if possible!

4. Don’t over file – Not only can over filing cause damage to the nail but it weakens the nail plate. The ultimate manicure experience at Nail & Beauty Lounge includes a hand massage that stimulates blood circulation and will have you open handedly offering to do the washing up!

Acrylic nails are a major investment, we all know that. If you’re getting acrylic nails done at home, it can be rather expensive to keep up with them, especially if they break easily. Some people find that they have to get their acrylic nails redone often and eventually give up on them because they can’t afford to keep using the product or going to salons.

If you have the same problem, here are some tips for you on how to make sure that your acrylic nails last longer:

1. Make sure that your nails are cleaned and polished before you apply the acrylic nail.

2. Do not bite your nails or use them as tools as this will cause them to break off.

3. Do not use acetone-based removers on your nails as this can cause damage to the acrylic coatings that have been applied.

There are a few things you should know to keep your acrylic nails looking good.

1. Never pick, scratch, or peel off the nails. This will keep the acrylic intact and strong.

2. Do not use your nails as tools for opening packages or lifting furniture.

3. When cleaning, avoid using abrasive cleaners that will scratch the surface of the nail.

4. Always push back your cuticles after bathing, washing dishes, etc.

5. Avoid wearing tight fitting gloves for long periods of time (i.e., dish washing) because this can cause the nail to loosen from the nail bed or break off completely.

I do acrylic nails, and im sure all of you girls have had them done, but have you ever wondered what is actually in the acrylic and how it should be maintained?

Well, i will share a bit of info with you on what is in acrylic

Acrylic nails are basically a mixture of a powder and a liquid. The powder is made up of ethyl methacrylate monomer, which is a polymer that polymerizes (evaporates) when mixed with the liquid to form long chains called polymers. These long chains hook together to form a hard protective layer over your natural nail.

The final product is incredibly strong and durable and can be made into any shape or length imaginable. This means that even if your natural nail breaks or tears, your acrylic nail won’t. Also if you don’t want to wait for your natural nails to grow longer or stronger then you can use acrylic nails to build them up using tips or forms.

The nail technician’s first priority is to prepare your natural nails. If you have any old polish on your fingers, it is best to remove it before getting your artificial nails applied. It is also important that your hands be clean before applying any products to them.

The next step is filing down the surface of your natural nail with a very coarse file called a rasp file. This makes it easier for the artificial nail to stick correctly by roughening up the naturally smooth surface of your nail. This step should only take a few minutes depending on how many nails you are doing and how quickly you file them down.*
