We all love getting a pedicure at a salon, but sometimes we don’t have the time or money. So, why not treat your feet to a pedicure at home? Here are the steps you need to do so:
1. Remove any old nail polish with an acetone-free remover and clean your feet thoroughly.
2. Shape your nails with a file (preferably an emery board). The best shape is slightly rounded at the top and squared off at the sides. Be careful that you don’t file them too short or too round. If you have problem areas on your feet such as calluses or dry skin, now is the time to address them. You can use a pumice stone or gentle foot scrub in order to remove dead skin cells from your feet and make them softer.
3. Fill a tub with warm water, add some bath salts and soak your feet for about 5 minutes. This will relax you and soften up the skin on your feet for easier trimming later on.
4. Trim and file away any dead skin from around your cuticles using a cuticle trimmer or nipper (make sure that you sterilize
The first step in treating your feet to a pedicure at home, is to draw yourself a nice warm bath. Once the bath has drawn, you can add bath salts, or some Epsom salt to the water. Epsom salt will help to remove any dead skin and will leave your feet feeling soft and refreshed. You don’t have to use the Epsom salt but if you don’t add anything else to your foot bath you will probably find that the water dries out your skin; this is because water washes away all of your natural oils.
Let your feet soak for at least 20 minutes but not more than 30 minutes or they may start to prune. A good test is when you feel like you are starting to sweat, it’s time to get out of the tub!
When you get out of the tub dry your feet off with a soft towel and rub some lotion into them, paying close attention to any areas that are dry such as around the heels and toes.
