I remember when I first started to take an interest in nail design, I was overwhelmed by all the different types of designs that are out there. I wanted to go to my nearest manicure salon, but that would cost me a fortune! I decided to do them myself at home, and it was not as hard as I thought it would be.
The very first thing you need is a good set of tools. You can purchase these from your local hardware store or you can buy them online at Amazon.com for a great price! I bought my tools for about $30 and they included a nail file, nail polish remover, nail polish, and some emery boards.
First things first – you need to prepare your nails. Make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before attempting any type of nail design. This will remove any dirt or debris from underneath your nails as well as around the cuticle area.
Next, you’ll want to trim your nails so they are even with each other. If you have long nails and do not want them to be any longer than they already are, then trim them down now before moving on to the next step.
As an amateur nail designer, I just love doing my own nails at home. After years of practice, I have finally been able to come up with a really great way of designing nails that look like you got them professionally done.
Here are the major steps in order for getting this look:
1) Pamper your hands. Before you do anything else, you must pamper your hands and moisturize them. Soak your hands in warm water with some Epsom salts and essential oils such as lavender or jasmine. This will open up the pores and ensure that your cuticles and skin are soft. You can also use a cuticle pusher to get rid of any dead skin or residue on your nails.
2) Apply a base coat to protect your natural nail. Always apply some sort of base coat before applying polish. This will help extend the life of your manicure and keep it looking healthy and fresh longer! You can use the same color as the polish you are going to use, or something clear if you want a more natural look (if you do not want any color on your nails). Make sure to let this dry for about 5 minutes before moving on to step 3!
3) Apply a base color
Nail art is one of the biggest trends in beauty right now. However, it can be intimidating to do on your own. Well, have no fear! I’ll show you how to get amazing nails at home with these simple steps.
First, find a design. There are plenty of blogs and YouTube videos that provide free tutorials on designs you can try. Practice makes perfect, so don’t be afraid to mess up a few times before you get it right. Once you’ve selected a design, gather your tools and supplies. My favorite nail polish brand is OPI; their colors are vibrant and long lasting. Pick out two or three colors that will work with your design (and your skin tone). You may also need some topcoat and base coat, as well as glitter or a dotting tool if your design calls for them.
After you’ve selected your colors, paint one layer of clear base coat onto each nail. This protects your nails from staining and helps the polish adhere better. Then apply a thin layer of color to each nail (for more opaque coverage, apply two coats). Once that has dried completely, use polish or a toothpick to paint on your design. Nails have become a big deal in the beauty industry these days. People are coming up with all different kinds of designs to make their nails look unique and beautiful. These designs are not just applied to your nails, but toe nails as well. During the summer months, people tend to show off their feet more often than any other time of the year.
With that being said, it is important for you to make sure that your toes look good in sandals and flip flops. The best way for you to do this is by getting a pedicure done by a professional nail technician. You can also do it yourself at home if you have the right equipment, knowledge, and patience to sit and spend some time on them.
The most important part to taking care of your hands and nails is making sure they are clean. It is imperative that you wash your hands before applying nail polish. If you have a latex allergy, you should use latex-free gloves when cleaning the house or doing dishes.
It is also important to soak your nails in warm water for about ten minutes with a moisturizing oil added to the water for extra conditioning. After soaking, rub in the oil around the nails and cuticles, as well as on the top of your hands. Keep rubbing until the oil has been completely absorbed by the skin.
To help strengthen your nails, apply cuticle cream on your cuticles daily. This will also help prevent hangnails for those who get them often, but be warned that this step is not recommended during pregnancy because it can cause uterine contractions.
Start with clean nails; then apply a clear base coat to protect your nails from stains caused by colored polishes. After applying two coats of colored polish, make sure it dries properly before applying a top coat to add shine and prolong wear time. Make sure to reapply it every other day or as needed after washing dishes or doing other chores that cause frequent hand washing.
