Our Five Step Nail Blog to Growing Long, Strong and Beautiful Nails

Here at Pale Pink Nails we think nails are very important. The look of your nails can change the whole look of your outfit and hand gestures! That’s why we have created a blog to help you on your way to growing long, strong, beautiful nails.

Our first step is to make sure that you are healthy. Eating a good diet is very important in order to grow strong and healthy nails. Eating lots of fruit and vegetables in particular will help as they contain vitamins A and C which are both very important for nail growth. Other vitamins such as iron, zinc, magnesium and calcium are also beneficial to nail health.

It is also a good idea to get into the habit of drinking plenty of water every day so that your body is well hydrated. As the nails are made up of keratin, which is a protein, it is also important to eat plenty of protein-rich foods such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts and beans.

Another thing that affects the health of our nails is smoking. Smoking cigarettes can cause damage to blood vessels including those found in our fingers which can result in poor circulation which can cause problems with nail growth and health.

The first step is to not cut off the tops of your nails. The top of your nails has a blood supply that nourishes and keeps your nails healthy. By cutting the tops off of your nails you are killing the blood supply and stunting the growth of your nails.

The second step is to use a nail hardener. Nail hardeners can be found at any drugstore or beauty supply store for under $10. They strengthen your nail, protect it from breaking, and promote growth.

The third step is to keep them clean, file and shape them regularly to prevent hangnails, but do not overdo it! Overfiling weakens nails causing them to break easily.

The fourth step is to eat a healthy diet rich in protein, calcium, biotin, iron and vitamins A & E for strong beautiful nails. By keeping your body nourished you will have beautiful healthy skin, hair and nails.

The fifth and final step is to moisturize with lotion or Vaseline every day after washing hands or taking a shower. You can also use petroleum jelly as a night treatment that will penetrate into the nail bed and cuticle area while you sleep!

First and foremost, you need to find out what your nails are like. Take a look at your nails and if they are brittle, peeling, have dark spots under them or are soft, you will need to focus on some of the following steps.

Nails do grow fast but it can be hard to tell because we are always clipping them. The average nail grows 3mm a month. If yours don’t, then you need to try the following steps.

The first step is to take a good look at the food you eat. We all know that having a balanced diet is important for our health but it also plays an important role in growing long and strong nails. If you suffer from dry or brittle nails then this lack of nutrition may be the cause. You will need foods rich in calcium such as milk, cheese and yogurt. There should also be plenty of fruits and vegetables (especially green leafy veg) in your diet too. Iron deficiency can also be a problem so eating red meat, fish and poultry can help with getting more iron into your diet. You may even want to consider taking supplements such as: Vitamin B7 (Biotin), Vitamin C or Vitamin E which are beneficial for nail growth.

The second step is moisturising your

Ever wonder why some women seem to have naturally beautiful long nails and others can’t seem to grow longer than their fingertips? The truth is, most women are not born with long, beautiful nails. Most of us have to work at it!

But it’s not as hard as you might think. Follow these simple steps and you will soon have the long, strong, and beautiful nails you’ve always wanted:

1. Don’t trim your nails too short!

You need the nail bed to be long, in order to have a longer, stronger nail. The longer your nail bed, the more of a chance your nail has to become strong and beautiful.

2. Try to not use acrylic nails.

Acrylic nails can be very damaging to the natural nail underneath. They weaken the natural nail and can lead to peeling and even breakage of the natural nail.

3. Apply olive oil or moisturiser daily on nails and cuticles!

Olive oil will help with dry, brittle nails, while moisturiser will prevent dryness in the cuticle area. A lot of people find that their cuticles are dry and sometimes crack or peel back from the finger – this is because they are dehydrated. You can apply olive oil or moisturiser every morning before you leave for work/school – any time during the day really! I like to apply it when my hands feel really dry! If you do this regularly, you will notice that your cuticles look a lot better than they used to!

4. Use a strengthening top coat daily!

Top coats help strengthen your nails, but you need to use them daily or every other day for them

1. Use clean nail tools.

~ Clean your nail tools in between uses and/or use a new tool for each person (a new emery board, a new buffer, etc.)**

2. Keep your nails dry and clean.

~ Wash your hands very often and thoroughly to prevent bacterial infection. Dry them carefully and allow them to air dry for about two minutes before putting on polish or cuticle oil.**

3. Apply cream every night and use cuticle oil daily.

~ Hydrate the skin around your nails to reduce brittleness and peeling. Choose a quality hand cream that contains lanolin, natural glycerine and/or aloe vera gel, or cocoa butter; also use cuticle oil daily to moisturize your nails, especially around the cuticles.**

4. Wear gloves when cleaning or using harsh chemicals (e.g., washing dishes).

~ Protect your manicure from getting chipped and protect your hands from the drying effects of harsh chemicals by wearing protective gloves while you do household chores like washing dishes, using bleach or acidic cleaners like toilet bowl cleaner or anything with ammonia in it (i.e., window cleaners).**
