Acrylic nails are a type of fake nail that is beloved for its elegance and for how it transforms a woman’s hands from boring to brilliant. Acrylic nails are also used quite often in nail art, as they can be filed into any shape and painted using nail polish or airbrushed with acrylic paint. When applied properly, acrylic nails look so real that it is difficult to tell whether the wearer has natural or fake nails.

Acrylic nails are created by combining a liquid monomer with a powder polymer to form a thick paste that can be molded into any shape. Once the acrylic hardens, it is safe to go about your daily routine without worrying about damaging your artificial nails. Although many women like to apply their own acrylics at home, it is recommended that you see an experienced professional for your first set of acrylics.

Stiletto nails are similar to coffin nails in that they are long and flat but with a sharp point instead of a squared-off edge.

Almond shaped nails are reminiscent of almonds in that they have a rounded tip and slightly tapered sides.

Square nails have straight, blunt sides and can be rounded at the corners or squared off.

Oval nails are similar to almond shaped nails, but with less roundness on the sides near the cuticle giving an oval shape.

1. Acrylic Nails: A long time favorite of professional nail technicians, acrylic nails are made from a combination of liquid monomer and powder polymer. Attached to the natural nail with an adhesive, acrylic nails are extremely durable and can be filed into any shape.

2. Silk Wraps: Silk wraps are similar to the popular French manicure technique but use silk wrap fabric instead of polish. The silk is adhered to the natural nail and then trimmed, filed and painted with a clear top coat.

3. Fiberglass Nails: Similar to silk wraps, fiberglass nails also use a fabric material to extend the natural nail. A resin is applied over the fabric that hardens as it dries, creating a durable overlay on the natural nail. Fiberglass nails are thinner than acrylic nails but more flexible and less damaging when removed.

4. Gels: Gel nails are made from a combination of monomers and polymer just like acrylics but don’t require the application of any heat during curing (drying). They can be shaped immediately after applying to the nail bed and do not require filing since they do not dry out until exposed to UV light under an LED lamp or traditional UV lamp for about two minutes.

5. Dipping Pow

The average cost of acrylic nails tends to be around $35 dollars, but it can range anywhere from $25 dollars to $45 dollars or even more.
