As Elena and Damon continue to grow closer, Stefan’s world collapses around him. Elena confesses her feelings for Damon, but before she can tell Stefan, he breaks up with her. A vampire hunter named Connor arrives in town and causes trouble for Matt and Jeremy.
Connor tries to kill Matt, who is saved by Rebekah. Connor later attacks Jeremy, but he is saved by Elena. Connor tells Jeremy that his hunter mark has been activated again. A flashback reveals that Stefan had been compelled by Klaus to turn Connor into a vampire hunter and then compel him to forget it.
Rebekah finds out about the cure and finds the location of Silas’ tomb from Katherine. She tries to kill Katherine, who warns her that if she kills her, she’ll never see Silas alive again. Klaus shows up at Stefan’s house and they fight as Damon stops them and compels Stefan to leave town with him.
