The only place I don’t recommend using glitter or sparkles is on your French manicure. The glitter and sparkle tend to look too busy on a French manicure. If you have never used glitter or sparkles before, you will want to experiment with it first.
You can apply the glitter and sparkle in several ways. You can just randomly apply them all over your nail. Or you can use the glitter and sparkle as an accent nail. I have used it as a middle finger accent nail, and it looks great! You can also use a small paint brush to outline a design on your nails first and then fill it in with the glitter or sparkle.
If you are going to use the glitter or sparkles as an accent nail, make sure you choose a color that will go well with the color that you are using for the rest of your nails. If you are using blue for the rest of your nails, for example, try using silver glitter or sparkles for your accent nail. On the other hand, if you are using pink for the rest of your nails, try using gold glitter or sparkles for your accent nail.

I am not a professional nail tech, just a girl who likes nail polish and thinks you should express yourself. This blog is my way of sharing the things I’ve found out about how to put glitter and sparkles on your nails.
The thing that has really been holding me back on my nail art is the fact that I didn’t want to use any tools other than a brush. Just a brush and some polish.
What can you do with that? Well, it turns out, a lot. You can do stripes! You can do dots! You can even make polka dots in rows! It’s pretty cool what you can do with just a brush and some polish.
So today I decided to try something new. I was inspired by this blog post from The Nailasaurus (which is totally awesome, by the way). She combined glitter and nail polish to make this awesome design.
I was honored to be asked by the makers of OPI to share my opinion on using glitter and sparkles on nails. My answer is YES! I would like to take it a step further and say that there are some considerations that you should take into account when putting glitter and sparkles on your nails.
I have been putting glitter and sparkles on my nails for over ten years. When I first started out, I did not have all of the tools and techniques at my disposal that I have today. What is important to know is this: It is possible to put glitter and sparkles on your nails without having them fall off after just a few days, especially if you follow these steps:
Sometimes, a small amount of glitter in a colored polish can be fun, but remember, the glitter particles are rough and may cause your nail to peel.
If you want to use glitter on your nails, try this instead: apply a clear base coat to your nails, then apply a layer of loose glitter over it. You can also do this over polish. Then apply another layer of clear polish (perhaps a quick-drying top coat) on top of that. This will ensure that the glitter stays where it belongs–on your nails. Be sure to remove all the excess glitter from around your nails after applying the top coat!
You can use a glitter or textured polish on its own for a coat of sparkle, or you can use it as an accent nail. You simply apply the textured polish to your chosen nails, and then if you like add a clear polish over it to make it last longer.
You can also use glitter as an accent nail by applying the glitter to just one nail, or you can use it as a top coat to make all ten fingers sparkly.

I know many of you are thinking, “Can’t I just use regular old glitter nail polish?” Well, sure you can. But unless the glitter is very fine and dense, it will take a long time to dry and will likely peel off after just a few days. Also, glitter nail polishes usually require a lot of coats to get good coverage. So I would recommend using these special glitters instead.
While these glitters are designed to be used with top coat or acrylics, they can be used on their own by layering them over a thick base color. You will have to use several layers of glitter but if you don’t mind the extra time it takes then go for it!
After a long time of using very neutral colors, I decided to add a pop of color. I did this by painting my nails pink with gold glitter on my ring finger. This was a subtle way to add sparkles and glitter without making it look like Christmas.
I think that this look is great because it is super simple and easy to do. All you need is two nail polishes and you are set! I think this would also be great for teenagers because they could use their school colors to create a fun manicure.
This might not work as well with other colors like red or blue, but I think that it would be gorgeous in silver and white.
