I don’t know if I’ve ever posted my nails at this point in the month before, but I’m having some fun with them so here they are! My nails are much stronger lately and growing quite well, so I’m not sure what the deal is right now (besides the fact that I’ve been using a base coat…), but it’s nice to be able to do this stuff again!

He left for Afghanistan a few weeks ago, which means that for the next 6 months or so it’s going to be just me and my dog. At first I thought this was going to be an awesome time for me to put up tons of postings and get caught up on everything, and then reality hit.

My daughter is a wonderful girl and she makes me proud every day, but she’s also a teenager and there are times when living with her is not easy. For example, she has her driving permit now which means she can drive herself around as long as there is an adult with

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word “nail” is probably something that has been done before, but in a very different way. Most people think of it as something that is painted on or glued onto the skin of their hands or feet. Nails are actually quite different from this type of thing and they come in many shapes and sizes. Some people like to have long nails while others prefer short ones.

I think it’s hard to see your nails as art. I mean, you can paint them, but it’s not the same as painting a canvas. You’re working with a tiny little surface and a tiny little brush (or pen). It’s much harder than normal painting. Plus, people usually look at your hands when you’re talking and don’t really look at them otherwise so there isn’t that much time for people to enjoy them.

I was thinking of some kind of multi colored nails that are all painted different colors and arranged in an artistic way – like making them into flowers or something. I know it would be hard to do because the nails are so small, but it would be kind of cute and cool I think.

So what do you guys think? Any ideas? Sound fun or just pointless?

I have always been fascinated by the potential that a manicure represents. A beautiful polish can be quite seductive, and nail art – no matter how simple or nuanced- is something that I find irresistible. But I am also a realist, and as much as I would love to paint my nails every morning and take a moment to enjoy this small but important detail, it simply doesn’t happen. So most of the time, when I do paint my nails, it’s because I’m going out – maybe to meet friends for drinks or dinner – or, more often than not, because I’m shooting an outfit post with an outfit that screams for some color on my hands.

I have been painting my nails since forever (you can see the post here), and it all started with the French manicure- the only one my mom would allow me to wear when I was still a kid. And then there was the period where I was obsessed with bright pink nail polish, which sometimes evolved into coral tones. In recent years though, I’ve been wearing nude polish more often than not (essentially because it goes well with almost everything), but there are moments in which I want to make a statement – even if it’s just through my nails!
