Gel Nails VS Acrylic Nails: A comparison of these two types of artificial nails.
There are a wide variety of choices available to you if you want to get artificial nails. Many people decide to get artificial nails because they want a flawless manicure that is hard to chip or break. Others may have damaged their natural nails and need them to grow out. There are two main types of artificial nails, gel and acrylic. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages that should be considered before having them applied by a professional nail tech or attempting it yourself at home.
Gel nails are most popularly known as Shellac nails because the Shellac brand was one of the first to market the gel system back in 2010. Gel nails can also be referred to as CND Shellac, Gelish, and OPI GelColor polish. They use LED light technology with a multi-step process involving base coat, color coat, and top coat with curing time between each layer for a total application time of about 45 minutes. The actual amount of time needed for application will vary depending on your nail tech and the style you’re wanting to achieve. You can have extensions added or just a simple clear overlay on your natural nail for strength. Although gel nails are very
Acrylic nails are so much better than gel nails. I have been getting acrylic nails for years and they are amazing. Gel nails are a waste of money!
The first reason why you should get acrylics is because they last longer. The second reason why you should get acrylics is because they look better than gel. The third reason is that they are cheaper in the long run.
Now, let’s compare the differences between these two types of artificial nails.
Acrylic nails can last up to four weeks and sometimes longer! They do not chip or break easily like gel and are an overall stronger type of nail. Another major benefit of acrylics is how great they look! Acrylics can be shaped into many different forms such as square, oval, almond, or even coffin shaped for those who like extra long nails. You can also add beautiful glitters to create colorful designs that will make your hands literally sparkle! They also don’t easily chip so your designs will last for a long time, which is good if you don’t have time to keep going back to the nail salon every week to get your nails redone. On top of all this, acrylics are usually much cheaper than gel, especially if you go to a cheap nail place like me
Gel nails and acrylic nails are two artificial nail applications. Both of these types of artificial nails enhance the natural nails one already has on their hands. When a person has gel or acrylic nails applied, it is to either extend the length of their natural nail or add strength to it. The difference between gel and acrylic nails is that with acrylic nails, a chemical liquid is used to harden the powder, whereas with gel nails, the liquid is exposed to a UV light.
Both types of artificial nails can be done at home or in a beauty salon. When having either type of nail application done at a beauty salon, it is best to go to one that has been recommended by friends or family so that one knows they will get a good job done on their nails by someone who knows what they are doing.
The first step in applying acrylic or gel nails is trimming and shaping them. This involves trimming them down so they are even with the tip of your finger and then shaping them how you want them when they are finished. One can choose between square tips, rounded tips or pointed tips for their finished look.
The next step in applying gel or acrylic nails is conditioning the natural nail by pushing back the cuticle and removing any traces of oil from the surface
Gel and acrylic are both artificial nail enhancements that can be used to lengthen short nails or strengthen weak ones. Which type is best for you depends on your personal preference as well as the condition of your natural nails.
In general, gel nails appear more natural than acrylic nails because they don’t have the same plastic look. Acrylics are often thicker than gels and less flexible, so they’re better at hiding imperfections and altering the shape of your natural nails.
Both types of artificial nails tend to weaken with time, and acrylics require more frequent maintenance than gels. Both types can be removed by soaking in an acetone solution.
In this article, I’ll share with you the pros and cons of each type of nail enhancements so that you can make an educated decision as to which one is best for you.
ACRYLIC NAILS
Acrylic nails are still the most popular artificial nail enhancement. They are made from a liquid monomer and a powder polymer. When mixed together, a hard protective layer forms over your natural nails. Usually acrylic nails are applied by using forms, tips or sculpting them out of acrylic powder. Acrylics are very durable and last up to 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your natural nails grow.
Pros: They’re inexpensive, look very natural and are less damaging than gel nails if applied properly and kept thin. Acrylic nails can be done at home, but they should only be applied by a professional as they require special training.
Cons: If improperly applied and/or not maintained properly, acrylics can damage your natural nails by lifting your nail plate off your nail bed (onycholysis). They have an unpleasant odor during application that some people cannot tolerate. You may also experience itching and burning sensations around the cuticles after application due to the chemicals used in the product.
As a nail technician, it is very important for me to stay up to date on the latest nail trends and products. Many clients come into the salon asking to have their nails done exactly like the latest celebrity trend or they want the newest product used on their nails. Every day we see new types of artificial nails being used on many celebrities and clients want to copy those looks.
The most common artificial nail used today is either gel or acrylic. Both are made out of different chemicals so they can be removed differently. The gel nails are cured under a UV light, which allows them to dry quickly and not chip easily. This also means that they must be removed by soaking in acetone. Acrylic nails are sculpted on top of your natural nails, then painted with regular nail polish. They are usually filled every two weeks because growth is still happening underneath the acrylic overlay.
I prefer gel nails over acrylic because they do not damage your natural nails as much as acrylic does, if applied correctly. I have had both and have had more problems with my natural nail growing back correctly after having acrylics than having gels done. Gel nails do not chip, break or peel off as easily as acrylics do, but you must make sure that you get them done correctly.
Artificial nails are used to help hide the fact that your nails are short, brittle or damaged. Artificial nails can be made from a variety of materials and may have different nail care needs. You must choose the type of artificial nails that best suits your lifestyle and nail care habits for the most successful results.
Acrylic Nails
Acrylic nails are a combination of a liquid monomer and a powder polymer. Acrylics are applied directly over your natural nail to create extended length and an aesthetically appealing shape. They feel heavier than gel nails and can last longer, but they require regular maintenance to keep their appearance. Acrylics may be filled monthly with new acrylic powder to maintain their appearance, or they may be removed completely by soaking them in acetone, which dissolves the acrylic material.
Gel Nails
Gel nails are made from a mixture of methacrylate monomers and polymers. Gel nails are hardened using ultraviolet light, which is said to make them more durable than acrylic nails. They typically last two weeks before requiring maintenance, but they cannot be refilled like acrylics; they must be removed entirely and replaced with new gel material if you want to extend their length or change their shape. Gel nails typically cost more than acrylics
